London G20 Pathologist Guilty of Misconduct

Ian Tomlinson, a 47-year-old father of nine, died after being attacked by police during the G20 summit in 2009. He was attacked by the Territorial Support Group police officer PC Simon Harwood. Tomlinson was returning home when his commute took him through the protest area. Harwood was caught on video beating Tomlinson in the legs with a baton after being thrown on the ground. He had his hands in his pockets and was unable to break his fall. Just before the assault Tomlinson bitten was by a police dog. After all of this he died.

Mohamed Patel did an autopsy on Tomlinson on April 4, 2009. His conclusion was that Tomlinson died of a heart attack linked to coronary artery disease. His family didn’t believe the results and requested a new autopsy. They had the right idea. A second examination by Dr. Nat Cary concluded he died of internal bleeding caused by blunt force trauma, in combination with cirrhosis of the liver. Dr. Kenneth Shorrock performed a third autopsy and agreed with Dr. Cary.

Dr. Patel who conducted the first autopsy has been found guilty of misconduct. This was determined by the General Medical Council. But it was not because of the killing of Ian Tomlinson. The panel looked at three other post-mortem examinations between 2002 and 2005.

Unfortunately the so-called examination of Tomlinson was not reviewed. The GMC looked at his examinations of a 5 year old girl in 2002, a four-week-old baby in 2003 and a woman in 2005. He declared the woman died from a blood clot in the coronary arteries. One month later he changed his cause of death to a brain hemorrhage, after a second pathologist did an examination. Patel told the GMC panel he changed his cause of death “to satisfy the family”.

Unfortunately this so-called pathologist was not found guilty of covering up a police murder. Instead he was suspended by GMA for faulty work. There should be a criminal investigation into Patel, because who knows what other police killings he’s covered up. The actions of Patel are the result of a police state covering up its crimes.
