As if the situation in Libya was not crazy enough, there is growing evidence that the CIA has infiltrated and is directing the Libyan rebels. This evidence has come to light through a series of reports in the mainstream media. It seems important leaders among the anti-Gaddafi resistance are on the CIA pay roll.

Check this out, go search the name Khalifa Haftar. he’s a long time CIA asset and now the leader of the rebel forces since March 17th. He became the leader the day before the NATO bombings of Libya began. It is interesting to note, the his name has been banned from mention in the mainstream media. In fact only McClatchy Newspapers has even uttered his name.

This right wing think tank Jamestown did a study on the guy. Here’s an excerpt:

“Today as Colonel Haftar finally returns to the battlefields of North Africa with the objective of toppling Gaddafi, his former co-conspirator from Libya’s 1969 coup, he may stand as the best liaison for the United States and allied NATO forces in dealing with Libya’s unruly rebels.”

While creating and running the Libyan National Army (LNA) he received money from the CIA. Not only that, but some of his officers were brought to the United States for training. All this was revealed in an interview he did in 1991.

Later Haftar’s name showed up in New Yorker magazine, National Public Radio, the British daily Guardian and the UK Independent.

“The careers of several make them sound like characters out of the more sinister Graham Greene novels. They include men such as Colonel Khalifa Haftar, former commander of the Libyan army in Chad who was captured and changed sides in 1988, setting up the anti-Gaddafi Libyan National Army reportedly with CIA and Saudi backing. For the last 20 years, he has been living quietly in Virginia before returning to Benghazi to lead the fight against Gaddafi.”

To this day there is still pretty much dead silence when it comes to Haftar’s name in the American media. As is well known, the interests of the ruling elite are well served by the news outlets they own. This fact must be made available to the public in order for them to make their own decision whether or not they support NATO involvement in Libya.

It is an unfortunate fact now that the rightful Libyan uprisings have been co-opted by the reactionary forces of the CIA and interests of the imperialists. It is absolutely imperative that the people of Libya realize this and purge the whores of the CIA from their ranks and take back their struggle for freedom. If not, this will be another revolution stolen by US interests.
