In what is a constantly repeated event through out every country occupied by America, a US soldier is accused of abducting and raping a teenage girl. In response to the raping of the 18-year-old South Korean woman, the US has placed all American serviceman on a curfew of one month. The US secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, Kurt M. Campbell, has publicly apologized for the incident:

“I’d like to personally and on behalf of the United States government take this opportunity to apologize to the Korean people for the tragic and inexcusable rape.”

The suspect is a 21-year-old a private first class who’s name will not be released by the media. Typically in rape cases the accused’s name is made public, but because he is US military, its being hidden to protect his identity. The soldier is said to be from the Second Infantry Division, deployed north of Seoul near the boarder with North Korea.

According to South Korean police the suspect broken into the victim’s room in a low-budget motel in Dongducheon on Sept. 24 and raped her. A surveillance camera recorded the soldier breaking in. Police also said that the attacker was drunk and used scissors, a knife, a ballpoint pen and a cigarette lighter on her.

The public reaction to the incident has been fierce. Public groups and law makers have demand for a long time better police powers for investigating the crimes of US soldiers in Korea. Crimes of US soldiers against the Korean population are long standing and usually unchallenged. One of the worst incidents was in 2002 when an American armoured vehicle ran down two school girls and killing them.

On Friday, Korean police announced that they were investigating another US soldier who is accused of raping a woman and stealing her laptop.

Rapes by soldiers of imperialist nations against women of occupied nations is a constant occurrence. The major victims of this are Japan, the Philippines, Korea and Thailand. A good example is in September 1995 when 3 US Navy Seaman kidnapped a 12-year-old Japanese girl “beat her, duct-taped her eyes and mouth shut, and bound her hands” before raping her. All three soldiers were prosecuted.

This is a scene repeated over and over again through out the history of imperialist occupation. This is the savage nature of imperialism. This is an example of the savage beasts imperialism turns people into that Che spoke about at the UN all those decades ago. According to the south Korean government’s official statistics, 50,082 crimes were committed by US soldiers from 1967 to 1998. The statistics imply that the actual figure may be higher if take into account those cases not handled by the south Korean police. Based on the statistics, the total number of crimes committed by US soldiers since September 8, 1945 (when they were first stationed in Korea) is estimated to be around 100,000.

This is why there is such a strong movement to remove US imperialism from South Korea and the rest of the world.
