People have a habit of shooting their mouths off and thinking they can live without ever having being held accountable for what they say. The internet Marxist community is a perfect example of this. Everyone talks tough when they’re behind the internet where they can hide. People in power have a similar kind of impunity. Donald Trump for example. The whole world is familiar with his terrible racist remarks about Mexicans where he essentially claimed that all Mexicans who come into the U.S. are rapists and drug dealers on the day he announced that he was running for head of the Republican Party. Of course this actually helped his popularity as he skyrocketed to the top of the preferred Republican leadership list. Trump is pretty used to being able to get away with whatever he wants, being able to hide behind astronomical amounts of money. Well not any more.

Felling perhaps a bit too invincible from his newfound popularity, he took to Twitter to attack his fellow political rivals on foreign policy. After the news of the Mexican drug cartel leader El Chapo escaping from prison was made public – Trump claimed that the foreign policy of Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush were too weak to deal with El Chapo. Trump arrogantly claimed that as president he would “kick [Chapo’s] ass”.[1]

El Chapo and the Mexican drug cartels use the border unimpeded like it was a vacuum cleaner, sucking drugs and death right into the U.S.

With El Chapo freshly out of prison he took exception to Trump’s words and responded with a tweet of his own which has since been removed because it violated Twitter terms of service. (Interesting the non-stop death and rape threats against women remain up.)

A translation[3] was made of the tweet: “keep fucking around and I’m gonna make you swallow your bitch words you fucking whitey milkshitter.” (Milkshitter being a Mexican homophobic slur.)

He also followed up with another tweet saying: “life takes many turns, one day we are in the hole and another day are up.”

Trump is now running scared. Reportedly he has gone to the F.B.I. looking for protection from the drug lord.[4] Reports have also come in saying that the billionaire has also taken on extra security.[5] Perhaps Trump now wishes that he kept his mouth in check now. Perhaps now he’ll reconsider the racist garbage that comes out of his mouth.

Now, believe it or not, this actually helps El Chapo. The Sinaola Cartel which he is the head of has some very leftist rhetoric sometimes. In moments they make statements about poverty in the country and sometimes mention the lack of concern the government has for the poor. Of course the biggest victims of the cartel are poor people. But the rhetoric that is there does gain some support from regular people in the country. I think this whole feud between El Chapo and Donald Trump plays into that. Now El Chapo looks like a qusai-hero for defending Mexican national honour in a much more serious way than the Mexican government did. People know the Mexican government is subservient to U.S. imperialist interests. So when El Chapo defends Mexico, and threatens the person who committed the offense – it makes it look like he cares more about the country than the president does. It’s a straight up propaganda move on his part.

Trump shot his mouth off trying to look like a tough guy and got called on it. El Chapo gets to defend his honour and at the same time get some P.R. in his favour. For someone so against the criminal elements of Mexico, Trump has certainly done enough to help them.

Update: My claim was correct. El Chapo’s actions heave earned him the status of folk hero.
