Accusations of Mainland Chinese Interference in Hong Kong Elections

Many see the election of Carrie Lam as some conspiratorial act. To many in the imperialist-controlled media, it seems simply impossible that Hong Kong could possibly elect someone who didn’t oppose the splitting of the nation. Since Lam holds that position it’s obvious that Beijing would be backing her. Just because someone supports the unity of a single China doesn’t mean they’re a puppet of some government or another.

If the US and other imperialist countries allege interface in the election, I’d challenge them to show evidence of their claim. As it stands right now we’ve only the word of protesters who seem determined to cause division among the Hong Kong population.

The claim but US media that China has manipulated the vote is simply facetious. The US has an incredibly long history of interfering in the elections of many countries around the world. The National Endowment for Democracy, a US government funded program, is responsible for interfering in elections all across Latin America, and Hong Kong as well. In 2014 a new “political party” was formed and placed under the leadership of one Joshua Wong, a 19-year-old student. This party was funded, formed, by the NED. Even then Wong was a figurehead for Benny Tai and Martin Lee.

Tai’s political and academic activity almost entirely subsidised by the US State Department, and with Lee having literally travelled to Washington just ahead of the protests to speak before the National Endowment for Democracy to lobby for the aid he soon received.

The US claimed previously claimed that former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was an unelected dictator. He most certainly was not. He was democratically elected by the people of Iran each time he ran for office and then stepped down when his time was up.

Who is the US to question the legitimacy of the elections of another country? Current US president Donald Trump is currently under investigation by the FBI for alleged links to the Russian government. Just this past Monday, F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, announced that the agency is investigating whether members of President Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election.  They can’t even certify their own presidential elections, who are they to question those of others?
