The US has decided to ramp up hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran for its opposition to the Saudi led war in Yemen. Speaking to the UN the US declared that it has ‘proof’ that Iranian missile technology had been used by Yemen to attack the Saudi capital of Riyadh. The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, held a press conference displaying what the US claims are the remains of an Iranian “Qiam” ballistic missile. The speech was delivered at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling military installation in Washington DC.
The US alleges that Yemeni resistance fighters used the missile to attack the Saudis. Haley commented saying, “As you know, we do not usually declassify this type of military equipment recovered from these attacks. But today, we are taking an extraordinary step of presenting it here, in an open setting.”
The missile was said to have attacked Saudi forces while placing the blame on Iran. “The Iranian regime cannot be allowed to engage in its lawless behavior any longer… the fight against Iranian aggression is the world’s fight,” she said.
Saudi Arabia has followed suit behind the US’s accusations alleging that Tehran was behind the attack and suggested that sanctions be placed on the country.
Many have cast doubt on the claim reminding people of the so-called ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ that Iraq was said to have. The claim, as history shows, turned out to be a complete lie used to justify the invasion of an oil producing country which had stopped trading said oil in US petrodollars.
the leader of the National Iranian American Council, Trita Parsi, accused Haley of trying to justify a war against Iran, “The Make no mistake: What Nikki Haley is doing right now is laying the groundwork for a US-Iran war on behalf of Saudi Arabia.”
Iran remains one of the few Middle Eastern countries that has not yet fallen to US imperialism. Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan, are prime examples of what the US does to a country that doesn’t bow to its will. Others have been happy to fold to foreign aggression such as Saudi Arabia and Israel. This allegation is most definitely being used to justify a jingoist stance towards Iran and its support for anti-imperialist forces in the region.
Cowardice is the only way to describe the Suadi’s complaint of a missile being launched their way. For three years they have outright murdered the people of Yemen to the tune of some 13,000 victims. Millions of others are suffering from a lack of food as Yemen imports 90% of it. The Saudis are blockading food into the country causing this mass hunger. The destruction of the country and blockade of medical supplies has led to a massive cholera outbreak. It was estimated that 612,703 cases emerged, while there were an estimated 913,741 suspected cases.
The Saudi’s have no right to cry about any act of violence perpetrated against them. They have been nothing less than mass murders of the Yemeni people. The cries of the suffering of the Yemeni people have gone completely ignored by the so-called champions of human rights the United States. Even the UN, under the thumb of US pressure, has largely ignored their suffering.
To simply cry about a single failed missile attack on Riyadh while they carrow out one of the worst mass murders in modern history is nothing short of disgusting. The criminal empire of the Saudi government should be held accountable for their inhumanity, and the US for their complicity in it.
